To honor our ancestors and raise awareness about family history, the Fayette County Genealogical Society begins a new weekly feature in area newspapers – "Old Fayette County Photo of the Week."
"There’s something very appealing about old local photographs that provide a glimpse of life as it once was in our community," said Fayette County Genealogical Society President Connie Sneed. "That’s why the Fayette County Genealogical Society wants to celebrate our heritage by sharing photos that provide insight into how our families once lived. I know we will all learn something from this experience too."
While many of the photos that the society plans to provide to local newspapers will be courtesy of the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives in La Grange, readers are invited to submit their favorite old family pictures and descriptions by contacting the society at www.faycogensoc.webs.com, (email) lggensoc@yahoo.com or by calling Connie at 979-968-4963.
Clear photos with identification can be submitted as JPG attachments through email or the Fayette County Genealogical Society is willing to borrow, scan and return original photos that families may have. While the society will gladly consider photos taken after the Great Depression, it is especially interested in those images that are more than 75 years old. Through this photographic tribute to the past, the society’s goal is to highlight each community and city in Fayette County over time.
